In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains. The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named /Hapuna/ or /Spring of Life/ in the Hawaiian language. There is so much to see and experience at the Hapuna Beach Hotel. You can be busy from morning to night, or if you choose you can relax and soak in the rays on the long white sand beach. The Hapuna Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course nestled in the dramatic natural contours of the land from the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. The course offers spectacular views of the Kohala coast and the Pacific Ocean while majestic Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kohala Mountains form the backdrop. One of the "best beaches on the island", combined with access to an "excellent" Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay–designed golf course, makes this "quiet" Kohala Coast lodging a sometimes "overlooked gem"; some of the otherwise "ordinary" rooms have "fantastic" ocean views, but a few faultfinders feel it "fails in the dining department"; N.B. its sister resort, the Mauan Kea, is closed for renovations.

The beach was wonderful. Concierge was helpful.

Dirty, bugs inside room, water from faucet is dirty, room service is too long, alarm malfunction & they fix it by removing that is a law violation.

Pro: The beach in front of this hotel is amazing. Cons: Water from faucet is dirty & undrinkable. The color is milky white instead of clear. Bugs in the room. Centipede/manipede is not what you want to see in the room. Room service took more than an hour to deliver us extra towel. We had to actually remind them. Room was old & smelly. Smoke detector malfunction in our room. Their solution of fixing it is by removing it completely & did not replace it. This is a law violation. If I were a fire Marshall, I would already fine them for doing that. They won't turn on lights on the common area though it is getting dark. They will turn it on only when it is completely dark. Kind of reminds me of my trip to Africa, where electricity is scarce. I went island hopping during this trip all staying on a 4 stars hotel, and this hotel is definitely way below par compare to the rest. ...read more

The Hapuna Prince is located at one of the best sand beaches in Hawaii.

It is a little distance to average / low priced dining.

This is a large hotel with a lovely lobby and seating area. We were greeted with cold juice and a wet cloth as we registered a first for us at any hotel. The pool and beach were very relaxing and a provided a beautiful place to rejuvenate ourselves. It was an outstanding bargain and we would return again anytime! The set up of where the parking is and elevator that doesn't take you to the lobby.

This hotel was very nice, although the elevator from the parking lot does not take you to the lobby to check in. It's actually kind of a weird set up and you need to walk really far to get to the lobby. The pool was warm also. Other than that, our stay was OK. I liked the staff, friendly and very helpful.

No shuddle from the airport, $100 taxi ride, money could be spent in hotel.

Nice, quiet room, friendly, helpful staff and a beautiful location. Food was somewhat over priced, but good. Pool water temperature was to warm for such a hot day. Hotel was very well maintained.
